The manufactures spend a lot of money on advertisement but that alone will not be enough for their business they need to cater to the demands of the consumers, this they achieve by paying people to do survey of the various products and to write their opinion. The manufactures and major corporations find it cheaper to pay people for doing surveys from home rather than hiring an employee because they will prove to be more of a liability. While trying to find out which are the companies with whom you would like to work you might come across spammers or scammers and these are the ones which give the survey industry a bad name. You should never sign up with those sites which ask you to pay for signing in.
Also, I make money online by reading e-mails. There are companies who want you to read the e-mails from advertisers. It takes just a few minutes for reading the emails and you can join these companies for free. You should sign up with these companies so as to receive emails for the topics you are interested in from advertisers and you get paid for the emails you read. When you join these companies and become a member you get a website of your own and when somebody joins from the website given to you it will fetch you extra income too.
